Another Mohican Valley Mission Trip (MVM) is in the books, and we couldn’t be happier with the results! This year’s trip included 40 students, 19 adult leaders, and 15 additional adult support staff from YFC ministries in Columbus, Gahanna, Johnstown, and Dublin.

Despite the very hot weather, leaders and students divided up into seven work teams that fanned out into the community to serve seniors in need. Over the course of three days, these work teams performed work for nine senior citizens. Each team worked hard and accomplished a lot. We scraped and painted decks, patios, porches, windows, doors, and even partially painted entire houses. We also did landscaping projects and even some small repair work on railings, steps, and gutters.

The homeowners we served were very happy. One said, “Wow, it really looks amazing. I couldn’t have asked for a better crew of men to come and work for me.” Another shared that she has gotten many compliments on her yard and her newly painted fence since the work was completed. Another said, “It was very meaningful for me to see an organization taking such an interest in the youth. It is so important to teach young people skills that they can take with them in life and to teach them the importance of taking pride in their work.” One homeowner got a picture taken with the team who worked at his home, and he plans to get it printed and framed so he can display it in his home because it was such a moving experience for him.

In the evenings, after returning from work, students and leaders enjoyed a variety of fun activities including go-karting, mini-golf, bowling, and a trip to a local lake. The Bible teachings for the week were on the book of Esther. The teachings generated great small group discussions about themes like utilizing the things and opportunities God gives us to serve others, taking risks for God, and what to do when we face situations that feel hopeless. Four students made first-time decisions to put their faith in Jesus during the week. Fifteen students attended a “Future leader” informational meeting. Perhaps some of those students will be leaders on a future Mission Trip. Something to pray for.

Overall, the general attitude on this trip was great all week. Except for a couple of exceptions, everyone got along well and enthusiastically participated in the trip activities, including the worksites. This made for a great time together and a really fast and fun week. Thank you for praying because God graciously answered our prayers.
